David Nassar

David Nassar has 20 years of experience internationally and in the United States developing effective strategic communication campaigns that create change. Since 2005, David has been at the leading edge of using digital tools, such as email and social media networks to raise awareness and mobilize groups to take action. As the Executive Director of Wal-Mart Watch, David led the effort to mobilize hundreds of thousands of people through digital means to pressure the Wal-Mart corporation to make improvements to their business practices. In 2009 David served as a Vice President at Blue State Digital, a global leader in digital strategic communications and the firm that provided the online strategies for the Obama campaign. While at Blue State, David led their engagement with The Carter Center and represented Blue State in a U.S. State Department technology delegation to Iraq along with senior representatives of Google, Youtube, MeetUp and Automatic.

David has broad experience internationally. He has worked to strengthen democratic institutions in Yemen, Jordan and Lebanon. He was the lead consultant on a project to empower the members of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions to affect the 2005 elections that included a peaceful rally of more than 20,000 union members in Ramallah. In Nigeria since 2003, he has been contributing to the political development of that country by training political parties, advising civil society on the effective use of technology for strategic communication, and most recently evaluating a critical strategic communications campaign around the elections earlier this year.

He has provided strategic communications consulting for international advocacy campaigns that are focused on generating public support including The Alliance For Youth Movements (AYM), which has become a leading voice on the use of technology to form and grow social movements; the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy which seeks to increase the engagement of ordinary Americans around the world; and Sudan365 which seeks to raise awareness about humanitarian issues in Sudan among a global audience.
